Magnetic Stirrer

A magnetic stirrer is a laboratory device used to create a rotating magnetic field. It typically consists of a small magnetic bar (or stir bar) placed within the liquid to be stirred, and a magnetic stir plate, which generates a rotating magnetic field beneath the vessel containing the liquid. When the stir bar is placed in the liquid and the stir plate is turned on, the rotating magnetic field causes the stir bar to spin, effectively stirring the liquid.

Magnetic stirrers are commonly used in chemistry, biology, and other scientific disciplines for various purposes such as mixing reagents, dissolving solids into liquids, and maintaining homogeneity of solutions. They offer advantages over traditional mechanical stirring methods in terms of ease of use, cleanliness (since there are no moving parts in contact with the liquid), and the ability to stir without introducing contamination.


Some magnetic stirrers also come with additional features such as adjustable speed settings, heating capabilities (in which case they're often referred to as "hotplate stirrers"), and digital displays for monitoring and controlling parameters like stirring speed and temperature.
